Greenspan says ouster of Hussein Crucial for Oil Security?

The Washington Posts' Bob Woodward has already picked through Alan Greenspan's book "The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World," which begins selling today. Greenspan says that Saddam Hussein had been "essential" to secure world oil supplies.

"So, in other words, Greenspan now admits that, when he claimed that Bush Administration's motive for the Iraq War was obtaining safe controls over the oil supply, he was actually saying that would have been -his- motive. So was he trying to heap more trouble onto Bush but got caught, or is it that he can't tell the difference between the reasons why he would do something vs. the motives that impel other people?"

Not surprisingly, Mr. Greenspan has already begun back peddling on this.
